Front of the Curtain, Back of the Curtain 03/06/19
This trip began on Tuesday afternoon. We left Wetumpka, driving to Atlanta for an overnight stay in order to be at the Atlanta Airport on Wednesday. Security checkpoints were my biggest concern. If you watch the news, there will be one story after another talking about the long lines and delays getting through airport security. We had a trip to take and reservations waiting on us. One thing we did not want to do was miss our plane to Italy. We got in the security checkpoint line, went through the Trusted Traveler line and were through and on the way to our gate in just about 15 minutes. Then we had 3 hours to kill while waiting to board our flight.
While sitting in the gate area, I was called up to the desk. The young lady informed me that I had been upgraded to First Class. You can imagine I was very pleased. I asked, How about my wife? The gate agent informed me that Linda's ticket had not been upgraded. All the upgrades were complete. I said," Am I to understand that I have to go back and tell Linda that I was upgraded and she was not? I don't think so." I told the agent to give the first class upgrade to someone else and we would keep our original seat assignment. I was told that was impossible because the plane was full and they had already reassigned my seat. I then went back to Linda and told her I had some good news and some bad news. To make a long story short, after we boarded the plane, Linda sent me a text and said she just ordered a Bloody Mary and I would not believe the assortment of goodies they had in first class. When we were landing the flight steward ask Linda if she wanted anything else. She said yes, I will take a few snacks for my husband, he is sitting in back of the curtain. I did mention this is our 45th wedding anniversary.
We had a good flight. Weather was good with no delays. We landed in Milan, Italy and took the train to Como, Italy, located on Lake Como. You know George Clooney has a place here. I have not seen him. We checked into the Hilton Hotel and the clerk welcomed us to Italy and told us they had upgraded our room to a lakeside view. We are settled in now and we will explore Como a little bit before we turn in.
buona notte,
(Italian for "good night".
